Xeriscape doesn’t mean rock and nothing else.
AG Landscaping designs xeriscape yards in Colorado Springs using native and drought-tolerant plants selected for our altitude and climate, combined with mulch and rock in the right places to cut water use without leaving the yard bare. It’s not an imported trend, either. Xeriscape is a Colorado idea, built for exactly the climate we live in.

What’s Included
What’s Included
Plant selection focuses on species that handle Colorado Springs’ altitude, sun exposure, and low rainfall without constant irrigation once established. We design planting beds with mulch or decorative rock as ground cover between plants rather than replacing plants with rock across the whole yard. Reduced irrigation need is a result of the plant selection, not a design shortcut.
Colorado’s Own Water-Wise Tradition
Denver Water coined the term “xeriscape” in 1981 to describe exactly the kind of water-conscious landscaping Colorado’s semi-arid climate has always called for. Colorado Springs receives around 15 to 17 inches of precipitation a year, well under half the national average, which is why plant selection matters more here than in wetter regions.
Plants suited to USDA hardiness zone 5b to 6a and Colorado Springs’ roughly 139-day growing season hold up through our wide seasonal swings in a way that plants bred for milder climates simply don’t.

Why Choose AG Landscaping
Plant choices that work at lower elevations often struggle at Colorado Springs’ altitude. We select species with that specifically in mind, which is the difference between a xeriscape yard that thrives and one that needs replanting within a year.
Service Area
Colorado Springs, Monument, Palmer Lake, Black Forest, Peyton, Castle Rock, and Castle Pines.
